Speeding Ticket

So I've been on winter break from Stanford for the last couple weeks, but took that time to work some community service to help pay off a ticket I got for speeding over the Golden Gate Bridge. Apparently, the police version of where the bridge ends and my understanding of where the bridge ends are different. Since the ticket was on the Marin side of the bridge I've had to serve my time up there. After some mundane work at the Marine Mammal Center, which is otherwise an amazing place to spend a day, I ended up at the Fairfax Library helping them out with a project. Of course I found it hard to resist the urge to encapsulate in images some of the lovely books I did see. Here is a sampling.

Abominable Snowman??

No! Just one more befurred beauty from Enrico Sacchetti's "Robes et Femmes."

That's quite a neck.

Beefsteak by Messenger

Darn. All he wanted was a beefsteak. Greedy bellys are bad for business in Nebraska.

Look what I found. Mandarin Cafe's descendants? Note the many comments on decor. So tasteful! Let's all read small-town restaurant reviews!

I Would Barf

Stormy seas abound in this stunning book of steamer ships. It's like an old-time mariner's catalog; on each page is a beautifully painted vessel. It's perfect for all y'all landlubbers like myself who love the idea of a life on the high seas but whose stomach rejects such an aquatic lifestyle.

Dream Bike Gear

Neat! Bike enthusiasts everywhere will be sad to discover that aerodynamic plastic head-bubble-gear fell out of favor when too many riders died of plastic-bag-over-the-head syndrome. It was a good idea, though. Sort of...

I'm sort of cheating here - this is my book that I found in Michigan.

Burning of Garbage is Unpatriotic

Be glad for progress. And no World Wars at present. From Food Conservation Notes, published 1918. Stay tuned. More wartime rationing to come.

I Want That Dress...

...and hat and coat. "Robes et Femmes" by Enrico Sacchetti, c. 1913. A portfolio of the most lovely prints I ever did see. Vibrant colors, pretty patterns, feathered hats galore, ankle length dresses somehow made to look fabulous, droopy-postured ladies. See for yourself. Wow!!
